An Invitation

Welcome Message by The Organisers

On behalf of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Public Utilities Board (PUB) of Singapore, we cordially invite you to attend the Global Conference on Microbial Contaminants in Drinking Water to be held in Singapore on October 5 to 8, 2009. Microbiological waterborne disease remains a significant concern for the worldwide water community. Whether it’s investigating an emerging pathogen or developing a new control strategy, the challenges facing water supply professionals, public health officials, and regulatory agencies are daunting.

This event will provide a comprehensive forum for the exchange of up-to-the-minute information and cutting-edge ideas relating to this critical public health issue. Special areas of concern include human health, risk and policy issues, detection technology, treatment and management strategies, tropical water quality issues, water security, disaster management and response. Participants will hear from international experts in public health management and waterborne disease surveillance and will attend technical sessions that address waterborne disease issues from source to tap.

We look forward to your participation!

Welcome Message from
Marilyn Marshall,
University of Arizona,
Chairperson - Planning Committee

On behalf of the program committe, I would like to welcome everyone to the Global Conference on Microbial Contaminants in Drinking Water. This year we have an impressive line up of speakers who represent the current field of knowledge in this important and vital field of research. You will also note that we have a high level of international representation among our presenters, which we think will truly make this a global conference for all participants.

Our committee is very excited that prominent experts Dr Patricia Meinhardt and Dr Ooi Eng Eong will be the keynote speakers. Dr Meinhardt will share her knowledge concerning the recognition, treatment, and prevention of waterborne disease resulting from exposure to chemical pollutants and infectious pathogens in contaminated water. Dr Ooi will share his work on public health and vector-borne desease, as well as environmental pathogen detection.

Based on the abstracts received, detection technology remains an important area of focus in the management of microbial contamination of drinking water. Other topics to be covered include tropical waterborne disease issues, human health, risks and policy issues as well as issues affecting disinfection. Registration for the conference is now open and your attendance is eagerly sought.
